A halophyle plantain related to Plantago sibirica L. which is endemic for Romania (Moldavia and Transylvania) and Hungary; it has an isolated population in southern Ukraine. Though it was originally described from Transylvania in 1853 there is only a single population left here, in Valea Sarata near Turda city, Cluj county while the 'locco classico' from the nearby Turda Saline Spa (Baile Sarate Turda) was completely depleted of the individuals of this species. Instead, in both Hungary and Moldavia it has more than 10 different locations.

Valea Sarata, Turda, Cluj county, august 2008
